VIDEOS
Sarah Thomas Moffat - Filmmaker
Big Bay Cemetery
The cemetery is located just south of the Big Bay village surrounded by Georgian Bay and the Niagara Escarpment.
Sarah Thomas Moffat has made a video which evokes the challenging and sometimes tragic lives of the early settlers.
This film's scenic elements become like a cast of characters: the picturesque locale, historic gravestones, family names, dates and places are Thomas Moffat's inspiration to create a sense of place.
Once again, as in, "Going to California", Ozzie Black plays a starring role in amongst the stones and bones.
Walter Moffat - Black Acting as Blue
Black Acting as Blue
The title is from a song of the same name. The title's words are my mispronunciation of my friend, artist, Robert Cadotte's technical painting phrase, blue acting as black.
It seemed appropriate as the title for a dark song about the First World War and the loss of Albert Yawkins at Vimy Ridge, April 1917. He was the fiance of Elsie Thomas, my grandmother.
Once again Sarah Thomas Moffat has successfully integrated a song and scenes, this time from photographs and paintings to tell a story - in this case the tragedy of war and love lost.
Using black and white photos from, her great grandmother's photo album 1913 to early 1920s and paintings by our mutual friend, artist Janet Wilson, from her book "In Flanders Field, the Story of the Poem" written with Linda Granfield, Sarah presents the loss then and still felt down the generations.
Walter Moffat - Road Trip
Going to California with Ozzie
In February of 2020 and January of 2023 - bookends of the Covid pandemic - Ozzie, our Cairn terrier, went to California for a month in the sun.
During the 2023 exodus my niece, Sarah, hitched a ride with us on her way to the promised land of cinematography, LA, to further her professional career.
Naturally being a filmmaker she made a short travelogue of our journey, with the travel dog, Ozzie, as star of the show.
Musical accompaniment provided by me, trying to nail that Eagle's guitar riff from their hit song 'Take it Easy' with a focus on a major stop in Winslow, Arizona, made famous in that song. The mountains viewed from town are indeed a fine sight to see!
I hope Glen Frey and the boys don't shut it down or sue me! Anyway at least I nailed the riff. Ozzie and Sarah were great companions and excellent navigators. It was fun.
It's a beautiful country with lots of challenges.
Walter Moffat - World Spine Care
HOPE is World Spine Care
Last year I was asked to write a song in the form of a thank you - a thank you song to donors of the international charity World Spine Care.
With the care of the spine as a central reference it proved to be a very entertaining assignment. Coincidentally and with great pleasure the basic idea and words came swiftly. A somewhat startling experience.
I wanted it to be short because I suspect most donors don't want a lot of fuss or expense wasted on thanking them.
World Spine Care has created the charming video to complement the song. The two go hand in hand and fit comfortably together.
